Five Volvo models received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) 2012 Top Safety Pick award. The award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rollover, and rear crashes. The five Volvo models to win the award were the C30, S60, S80, XC60, and XC90.

Volvo has announced that it is recalling specific Volvo S60 sedans and C70 convertibles from the 2006-2012 model years. The vehicles are equipped with the optional spare tire kit and may be improperly labeled for tire inflation pressure of the spare tire. The labels may not comply with federal label regulations.

Volvo finds itself in the lead among European automakers when it comes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. This was demonstrated in the sixth annual analysis conducted by T&E, the European Federation for Transport and Environment. “We are delighted and very proud of this result. We are following our ambitious plan which puts the spotlight on cutting carbon dioxide emissions,” says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of the Volvo Car Corporation.

Volvo has announced that their V60 Plug-in Hybrid, unveiled earlier this year, will be launched on the market in 2012. The model, the result of close cooperation between Volvo Car Corporation and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall, has carbon dioxide emissions below 50 g/km.

Volvo now makes it possible for customers to combine fuel-cutting start/stop technology with an automatic transmission. The new start/stop technology, which initially is available for the 2.0-litre D3 turbo diesel, cuts CO2 emission with 10 g/km, which translates into 0.4 litres less fuel consumption per 100 km.
