The Vovlo XC90 beat out 20 other SUVs and crossovers for the title of 2011 best luxury SUV at the Northwest Automotive Press Association Mudfest event this month. The annual competition was held in Snoqualmie Washington with 26 of the best regional automotive journalists evaluating the each vehicle’s performance. It’s no wonder why the Volvo XC90 was popular among the judges since the Northwest is one of the best markets for all Volvo XC models.
With its advanced instant traction all-wheel-drive system, the XC90 stylishly and safely rules the road on any type of terrain. Seven passengers can comfortably enjoy the ride and be entertained with the dual screen rear seat entertainment system. Safety features like the DSTC Anti-skid System, the Integrated Child Booster Cushions, and the Side Impact Protecting System ensure safety for all in this sleek award-winning luxury SUV.
The vehicle won the same Mudfest title in 2002 and 2003 because of its revolutionary Roll Stability Control system which has improved over the years into Electronic Stability Control (ESC). ESC has since become a National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) Federal motor vehicle standard for multipurpose vehicles in order to reduce the serious risk of rollover accidents. According to the NHTSA, the ESC “uses automatic computer-controlled braking of individual wheels to assist the driver in maintaining control in critical driving situation in which the vehicle is beginning to lose directional stability at the rear wheels (spin out) or directional control at the front wheels (plow out).”
